Donkey Under The Tiger’s Skin
Once upon a time there lived a poor washer man in a village. He had a donkey that was very thin and weak because of lack of food. The washer man was worried to see the donkey becoming weaker day by day.
One day the washer man found a dead tiger while he was passing by the jungle. Suddenly he got an idea. He thought, “If I take out the tiger’s skin and cover my donkey with this skin and then I free him in the fields to graze…”
“…Everybody will mistake him to be the real tiger. The farmers would get afraid of him. So they would not come near to him and then he can graze for the whole night. This idea will certainly help to improve his health.”
The washer man went home and told the whole plan to the donkey. The donkey became happy. But there was a problem. The farmers would understand his truth if he started braying. So the washer man warned him not to bray at all.
Now the washer man used to cover the donkey with the tiger’s skin and let him graze in the fields every day. The farmers got afraid of him and they mistook him to be the real tiger. So no one came near to him.
Now the donkey was getting plentiful of food. He became healthy in few days. The donkey as well as the washer man was happy.
One day when the donkey was grazing in the field, he heard one female donkey braying nearby. When he heard the voice of his same race, he forgot everything and started braying in response.
Now the farmer realized that it was not a tiger but a donkey that was making fool of him. The farmer got annoyed and ran after him to punish him.
The farmer started beating the donkey badly with a stick. The donkey felt as if the sky had fallen down on his head. The donkey was crying with pain.
After beating a lot, the farmer left the donkey there and went away in his hut. He somehow managed to stand on his feet and came out of the fields.
But today he learnt a lesson that once or twice you can make fool of somebody but not always. It is not wise to act like someone that you are not. Ultimately the truth reveals itself.
