The meaning of prophets and messengers.
Prophet is a person who received revelations from Allah but is not obliged to share it with others.

Whereas Rasul is someone who gets a revelation from Allah and has an obligation to disseminate it.

The number of prophets is 124 thousand , as the Hadith narrated by At-turmuzy as follows:

From abi zar (ra) that the Messenger of Allah said when asked about the number of the prophets, is one hundred and twenty-four thousand (124 thousand).
then how many apostles among them?
He answered: "three hundred and twelve (312)" (Narrated by At-Turmuzy)

Companions of the Prophet are people who knew and saw the Prophet Muhammad first hand, helped in his struggle and died in a Muslim state.
