Description of Yine
The native language of the Yine people is Yine, belonging to the Arawak linguistic family, and is spoken mainly in the Ucayali provinces in the Loreto region; Watchtower and Purús, in Ucayali; The Convention, in Cusco and in Tambopata, Manu and Tahuamanu, in Madre de Dios. The results of the 2017 national censuses indicate that by the mother tongue or language with which he learned to speak in his childhood there have been 2,680 people who have stated that they speak the Yine language that corresponds to 0.05% of the total native languages at the level national.
The Yine people are also known as ‘piro’, a denomination that has been used from neighboring and other foreign towns to distinguish this town. The word "Yine", on the other hand, would come from Yineru, which in the indigenous language translates as "real men", "being human" or "people par excellence."
This computer application (Android OS), made in Iquitos Peru, makes it easier for people, speaking or non-speaking, to learn the Yine language through sounds and images. Among the relevant contents we have the vowels, the consonants, the numbers, the family, the colors, the fruits, the animals, the expressions among others.
The objective is that in addition to learning in their own language, it is to empower the speaker to show that their language can be used in other media, in this case the technological and thus strengthen the Amazonian languages.
The IIAP works hard to develop new technological tools, with a concept of social inclusion, which allows to rescue and consolidate information on the languages of indigenous communities.
