The institution of the Christian religion (in the original French L'Institution of chrétienne religion) is a theological treatise written by John Calvin. It was first published in Latin in 1536, and later translated into French by himself in 1541.

This book systematically develops the doctrine of the Reformation as the Calvin promoted. Through its text, it accentuates the contrast between the full power of God and the smallness of man, lost by original sin. Since that sin has made him fall, the man has become corrupt in nature and has been deprived of his free will. Their status depends on God's grace and the beneficiaries are chosen so predestined.

This book was one of the first treaties of theology written in a language other than Latin. Classic Christian book fully based on the Bible, with numerous biblical passages.
