The Adapted Military Service (SMA) is a military device for socio-professional integration
established in the overseas departments, in New Caledonia
and in French Polynesia for the benefit of young women and men aged 18 to 25
distant from employment.

More than 6,000 young people were welcomed in 2017 in different training centers
and more than 70% of the volunteers were integrated into the professional environment at the end
of their journey.

This global training (medical, psychological, social and physical monitoring of young people,
permanent socio-educational support and individualized monitoring of each
volunteer), with an average duration of 10 months, supports volunteers in a
military framework (rules of military life and discipline) centered on the acquisition of a
citizen autonomy and responsibility embodied in a job or
positive output. Fighting to get young people out of illiteracy (39% in 2017) thanks to this
service is a top priority.
