My big secret
 For most of my life I was panicky afraid of public speaking. I remember one unfortunate incident when I read a report in the seventh grade in an English lesson. I was shaking, panting with fear, and unable to finish my speech, fell silent, looking helplessly at my classmates, while Mr. Heilman, our heartless English teacher, thoroughly criticized my miserable speech.
Soon I developed a serious phobia. I could not speak in front of an audience. At school and university, every time I needed to make speeches, make oral messages or read aloud, I somehow managed to slip away by miracle.
In adulthood, I still had to face my fear several times. So it was at the wedding of my best friend, where I gave the shortest toast in the world. This toast sounded something like this: “Congratulations to the newlyweds Kurt and Linda. What more can I say? ”
